Recently took a hike to Island Lake and Red Lake in Oregon’s Sky Lakes Wilderness. I also took a side trip to Cristi’s Springs via the PCT. These lakes are in the southern part of Sky Lakes Wilderness.

This is a good area to explore if you’re not into long hikes or don’t have all day. It’s also not a bad area for overnight trips. If you come in via Lost Creek Way Trail off Forest road 3659 (Big Meadows). It’s a seldom used and unmarked trail. It’s not on most maps from what I understand.

It’s less than 3 miles in and out with almost no elevation gain. It’s an area with several trail junctions so make sure you bring a reliable map. Of course I’d suggest that anywhere in Sky Lakes Wilderness. Siskiyou Mountain Club in Ashland Oregon has good maps and so does USFS.
